Abstract: The U.S. Banking Crisis of 2023 is reportedly different from previous crises. The well-expected failure of Silvergate Bank is because of its crypto-friendly business. This study examines the events that led to the bank's collapse granularly that led to its bankruptcy. A qualitative examination uses historical research and case study method to examine the background of the bank, the series of events that led to its rise, and the eventual collapse of the bank. Discussion and findings from the study explain the various forms of risks that banks face in the course of their business. The study contributes to the literature on bank crises and failures and will be useful to the banking industry and regulators.
